Six months into being a 35 year old has me thinking a lot about the future—especially about the adventures I still want to experience. My 30s have been full of growth and reflection, but there’s one thing I’m particularly excited about in the next five years: travel and adventure. Before I hit the big 4-0, I want to fill my passport with stamps and make unforgettable memories. The next half-decade will be a time to explore some of the most incredible destinations on Earth—places I’ve dreamt of and cultures I can’t wait to experience.

Here are my top travel goals before my 40th birthday.

African Safari: The Ultimate Adventure

I’ve always wanted to experience Africa in its purest, wildest form, and the next five years are my chance to make that dream a reality. My ideal African adventure would be a safari trip that takes me through Kenya and Tanzania, specifically to witness the Great Migration. Seeing millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles moving across the Serengeti is an experience I’ve only seen in documentaries, but I know it will be even more awe-inspiring in person.

But the safari experience isn’t just about the animals—it’s about the landscapes, the culture, and the connection to nature. After the migration, I’d love to stay at Giraffe Manor in Nairobi, where I could dine alongside endangered giraffes—such a magical, bucket-list experience. To wrap up my African adventure, I want to end the trip on the pristine beaches of Zanzibar, where I can unwind and take in the beauty of the Indian Ocean. This trip would be a journey of a lifetime, and I can’t wait to embark on it.

Jordan: The Middle Eastern Jewel

The Middle East has always fascinated me, and after visiting places like Egypt and Turkey, I’m eager to go back and explore Jordan. This small but historically rich country is home to some of the most iconic landmarks in the world, and I can’t wait to see them up close. Petra, the ancient city carved into the red sandstone cliffs, is a must-see, and I’d love to walk through the narrow Siq to see the Treasury for the first time.

Beyond Petra, I’m excited to experience the desert landscapes of Wadi Rum, where I can stay in a Bedouin camp under the stars, and to float in the therapeutic waters of the Dead Sea. Jordan offers such a blend of history, culture, and natural beauty that I know it will be an unforgettable journey.

South America: Argentina and the Wonders of Nature

In South America, my travel dreams are centered around Argentina. The diversity of landscapes in Argentina—from the bustling streets of Buenos Aires to the vineyards of Mendoza—has always intrigued me. I can’t wait to explore the European-style architecture and vibrant culture in Buenos Aires, and I’m equally excited about Mendoza, known for its Malbec wines.

But what really calls to me is Patagonia—a region known for its rugged beauty and breathtaking landscapes. I’m looking forward to hiking through its glaciers, mountains, and fjords, fully immersing myself in the natural wonders of this remote part of the world. And of course, I’d love to see the majestic Iguazú Falls on the border between Argentina and Brazil. This is one of the largest and most spectacular waterfall systems in the world!

Japan: A Mix of Tradition and Modernity

Japan has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. The mix of tradition and modernity in this beautiful country fascinates me. From the vibrant streets of Tokyo to the serene temples in Kyoto, Japan offers something for every type of traveler. I want to wander through gardens, visit shrines, and experience the beauty of Mount Fuji up close. But what excites me most about Japan is its culture! And, of course, the food—sushi, ramen, matcha, and so much more—is a huge draw. And, let's not forget about the designer shopping!!!

Whether it’s exploring the bustling streets of Osaka or the quiet beauty of Hokkaido, I know this trip will be transformative. I’m also fascinated by the Japanese approach to mindfulness, and I’d love to take part in a traditional tea ceremony or stay in a ryokan (a traditional Japanese inn). Japan is a place where old and new collide, and I’m eager to witness it all firsthand.

WRAP UP:

These are just a few of the places on my radar for the next five years, but I know that as I continue to grow and change, my travel list will evolve too. Whether I’m exploring ancient ruins, witnessing natural wonders, or connecting with new cultures, my goal is to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Turning 40 feels like a big milestone, but I’m excited about the adventures that lie ahead. The world is so big, and I’ve barely scratched the surface. Here’s to making the most of the next five years—and to filling my life with stories from every corner of the globe.
